Press Release Expert Panel November 2015
MICA ACTION GROUP CALL ON ALL HOMEOWNERS WITH DEFECTIVE BLOCKS TO REGISTER
For Immediate Release Nov 30th 2015
Mica Action Group (MAG) welcomes the recent announcement by Mr. Paudie Coffey, T.D., Minister with Responsibility for Housing, Planning and Co-ordination of the Construction 2020 Strategy and Minister Joe Mc Hugh that an expert group is to be set up imminently to investigate the problems that have emerged in the concrete blockwork of certain dwellings in Donegal and Mayo. MAG are calling on all homeowners in Donegal who think they too are affected by the defective blocks issue to register with them now.
Whilst MAG has been calling on the government for more than 18 months to set up this expert panel, this is a huge step forward with a definite commitment from Minister Coffey and Minister Joe Mc Hugh and a timeline put in place for the process. The selection of the chair is underway and the remit of the panel is to establish, the number of affected dwellings in Donegal and Mayo, the root cause of the problems and the technical solutions for remediation. A report is due to be submitted to the Minister of State by May 31st 2016. MAG have asked to work closely with this expert panel during this process to ensure that what we have learnt and the harrowing and stressful conditions under which homeowners are living on a daily basis is accurately conveyed.
MAG already has close to 250 homeowners registered who perceive they have this problem of defective blocks. However, this number is increasing all the time. Many homeowners in the county are living in houses which may be unstable and are facing into another winter worrying about the continued degradation of the roofs over the heads. It is now more important than ever that all homeowners who think they may be affected by this issue of unusual and progressive cracking to their homes consistent with defective blocks to register with us now if they have not already done so.
If you think you are affected please register at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9KPFQKM or contact the Mica Action Group on www.facebook.com/Micaactiongroup.
